About Fundraiser for Matilda with Imogen

Saturday 17th & Sunday 25th January see me running some very special classes with 50% of profits going to the fundraiser to raise money for Matildas surgery.

Matilda was born in 2022 and was diagnosed Deaf at just five weeks old and attended class with me with her wonderful mummy for the first year of her life.

She is profoundly deaf in her left ear and has moderate hearing loss in her right. Alongside this, she lives with multiple complex medical needs, including BPVC vertigo, developmental delay, Autism, eczema, and a rare genetic condition called Gorlin Syndrome, which brings a 90% lifetime risk of skin cancer.

Over the last three and a half years, Matilda has endured endless tests, surgeries, and is constantly changing hearing devices, to find something that can give her the best access to sound. This inconsistency has meant she’s been unable to develop spoken language. She communicates using BSL signs, gestures, and facial expressions, and becomes frustrated when she can’t make herself understood—despite having so much to say.

A cochlear implant would give Matilda the chance to hear, reduce her daily fatigue and frustration, and offer her the best possible opportunity to develop spoken language and fully engage with the world around her.
